Aha! Remember the odd assembly in the basement? Here's what it attached to. There are actually two such assemblies on the basement ceiling. One each per iron gate half. Those assemblies are the weights that keep these gates swinging closed after someone goes through them. I'm in the living room shooting through the gates into the dining room. The main entrance to the house is through those doors on the right. The stairs to the upper floor are off to the left. The entrance to the kitchen is to the left just after going through the IRON GATE.
