Welcome to At-Speed!
SAAB at Le Mans
...back in the day.
A blog I subscribe to linked me to this forum that had these really cool pictures from the 1959 Le Mans 24 hr race. They are photos from an individual's personal collection and they are fantastic for many reasons, not the least of which is they come with captions identifying the people and cars and occasionally some interesting tidbit.
Note: These images are being served directly from the forum page where they were originally posted. They have not been copied to at-speed.com. Credit to the original photographer.
↓ This was the Saab of Nottorp/Bengston.
↓ No. 43 was the Saab of Sid Hurrell/Roy North at Le Mans 1959. No.51 was the Osca of the Rodrigeuz Brothers, Ricardo and Pedro and No.52 is the Osca of Laroche/Testut.
↓ The Hurrell/North Saab at Le Mans 1959. They found that their fuel tank was not big enough so they took the tank out of their A40 Austin and fitted that. However, the filler was on the wrong side so the punched a hole in the Saab body work at accommodate it.
So, note to all would-be Le Mans replica SAAB 93 restorers... Why not be a little different and choose to replicate the non-factory team? To be completely accurate you must fit a fuel tank from an Austin A40.

Introducing...
This is the Official Quantum Formula S Online Registry. The primary goal is to register every Quantum Formula S in existence.
The site will also provide historical information, current news and restoration tips and resources.
I've been working on this for a while. There's still a lot more work to be done but the information that is there is useful so it is time to open it up to the public.

Part 2 - Old BMC Autocross Video
This is Part 2 of a series of videos of autocrossing from the mid 70's at the Dravo shipyard in Wilmington, DE. The film belongs to the Jacobson family that own and operate Sports Car Service in Wilmington.
In this part, we can see that Bill Jacobson has fitted yet another wheel & tire package to his Sonett in search of the fast time. Accordingly, his competition in the black and orange Formula V has developed some sort of monster intake system.
Take special note of the diesel powered Mercedes hot rod. My Dad thinks there is a good possibility that car still exists. The story goes, the owner was blind in one eye. He had a friend who was blind in the other eye. So long as the correct person was sitting on the correct side of the car, they could operate as a smooth running team. If they swapped positions however, look out!

Part 1 - Old BMC Autocross Video
I just uploaded Part 1 of a series of videos of autocrossing from the mid 70's. This part is footage of a Brandywine Motorsports Club (BMC) event in 1976 at the Dravo shipyard in Wilmington, DE. The film belongs to the Jacobson family that own and operate Sports Car Service in Wilmington. They and their black SAAB Sonett III feature heavily in the film.
